Day 14- Sep. 16- Mespil Hotel, Dublin City Center, Dublin co.

Early on the morning of the 16th found a sleepy bunch motoring toward Dublin. We had to return our rental car that morning, so wanted to get an early start.

We were hoping that Mespil Hotel would have a room ready for us so that we wouldn't have to sit in the hotel lobby like stranded tourists on our luggage. Then, if we could stay there, all of us wouldn't have to go to the airport and try to load our luggage into a taxi and drive all the way back to the hotel.

The skies were very overcast and there was a fitful spitting rain. At least it wasn't as cold as it had been!

Sorry, I don't have a lot of pictures for the 16th. Hem, the photographers must've been sleeping...

Lap of Luxury
Gram, Aunt Carol and TJ.'s room at Mespil Hotel. The room's were very comfortable, and we could adjust the heat! That meant that we could get rid of the damp air that pervades everything and actually get warm!

Dublin Castle
Once some of us had had breakfast at the hotel, we went out for a walk around Dublin. This is the pedestrian entrance to Dublin Castle, which we never went to see.

Iron Fence
One of the many churches in Dublin.

Trinity College
Trinity College and the book of Kells were on our hit list for the next day when we would be on the hop-on-hop-off bus.

Victorian Architecture

"The Holly and the Ivy..."

Walking
There go the blue coats up ahead!

European Colors
Watch out, you'll need sunglasses to look upon some of those colors!

Claustrophobic
This church was smashed right in between all those business buildings.

Grafton Street
We walked all the way to Grafton St. and St Steven's Green. It was quite the walk for everybody, but we made it! Grafton St. was very interesting. It was like the Old Market in Omaha, but yet different somehow. More like a Vanity Fair. There were street musicians, beggars, pubs every ten feet (it seemed) and lots of people! The people just stared at you as if you were an alien and shouldn't be there. I have written in my diary entry that day that I never ever want to go back there. :)

Flower Bed
After sampling Grafton St, Gram decided to rest on a bench in St Steven's Green while we did more shopping in Grafton St. Naughty Gram didn't really rest, but walked around taking pictures and videos. I'm glad she did, though, 'cause these are about the only pictures that we have of this area. :-/

Peaceful Walk

Topical Map Of St Steven's Green

Repose
St Steven's Green was a peaceful place to walk through after Grafton St!

Statues
Not sure what these were for...

Irish Socks
Gram got herself some socks while out shopping. They had a map of Ireland on the bottom with "My feet will always be in Ireland" at the top. :) They were really cute!

I was very relieved to get back to the peace and quiet of our hotel room. After a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich, we laid down for awhile. Gram showed up sometime after that and Mom, Abi and she played a game of Crazy 8s. It was fun reminiscing about the day.
